My Pregnancy Test was Positive. Now What?
If you have a positive lab-quality pregnancy test, the next step will be a limited obstetric ultrasound, which New Hope Center provides at no charge. An ultrasound provides crucial information that will guide you through the decision-making process.
What is a Limited Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a form of medical imaging that uses high-frequency sound waves to reveal an image of what’s happening inside the uterus. Ultrasounds are completely safe for both you and your pregnancy.
Why Do I Need an Ultrasound?
Our limited obstetric ultrasounds provide the following information:
- It will confirm your pregnancy. As many as one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, so it’s important to make sure you’re really pregnant.
- It will detect the baby’s heartbeat.
- It will determine how many weeks pregnant you are. This is important if you’re considering abortion because the procedures that are available will depend on the gestational age of your pregnancy.
- It will confirm the viability of the pregnancy. It will show if the pregnancy is located somewhere other than the uterus, an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy may be life-threatening, so it’s important to identify this risk right away.
