Facing Unexpected Pregnancy?

If your partner is or thinks she might be pregnant and it wasn’t part of the plan you had, you’re likely feeling angry, confused, frustrated, or afraid. Many men in this situation also feel as though they don’t have a say in the outcome of the pregnancy, which is not true.

At New Hope Center, we offer free and confidential pregnancy testing and ultrasounds to confirm the pregnancy, as well as consultations to help you talk about your options: abortion, adoption, or parenting.

We also offer a free fatherhood program called Man To Man. This program is for men who want to show up, do the right thing, and be involved in raising their children. We pair male mentors with soon-to-be-fathers, then we equip them with the parenting skills and the relationship skills that they need. We want to ease any self-doubt men may have so they can be confident fathers.

How To Support Your Partner

Here are some things you can do in order to support your partner and express your opinion as you face this unexpected pregnancy together.

1. Go To Her Appointment

Many women in this situation reach out to their partners for support and encouragement. One way you can stand by her and offer what she needs is to come with her to her appointment. At New Hope Center, we offer no-cost pregnancy testing and ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy, as well as consultations to help you through the next steps.

2. Stay By Her Side

An unexpected pregnancy is a difficult circumstance, and many people may want to share their opinions. Telling friends and family can be uncomfortable and nerve-racking, and the decision-making process will be complicated. It will not be easy to walk through this, but it will be much better to do so together.

3. Be Open And Honest

Conversations around unexpected pregnancy often leave men out, but they shouldn’t. The pregnancy is something both of you are responsible for; one that both of you need to discuss together. Being open and honest about your thoughts, as well as listening to hers, will help the two of you better understand the best decision for both of you.

4. Make The Decision Together

There will be few decisions in life that are as difficult and important as this one. We say this not to scare you, but to encourage both of you to really take the time to consider what you think and how the decision might impact you. Whether you are considering abortion, adoption, or parenting, we have resources and information to help you make that choice together.

Man To Man Fatherhood Program

We have one-on-one fatherhood classes taught by our trained male staff and resources to help you become a great parent. We will help you learn more about her pregnancy, how to support her, how to care for your baby, and your role as a new father. You will also earn material items for your new baby. This is not a journey you will have to walk alone.

New Hope Center is committed to helping men who are faced with an unexpected pregnancy. Learn more about the services we offer or contact us for information on how we can help.
