Finding out you’re pregnant without health insurance can feel like a lot to take in at first. You may be worried about how you’ll get medical care, what your options are, and what comes next. The good news is that not having insurance doesn’t mean you’re out of support or out of choices. There are resources available to help you verify your pregnancy, understand your health, and explore your next steps in a respectful setting.

New Hope Center is a medical center that offers free, confidential pregnancy services for women facing an unplanned pregnancy. We provide medical-grade pregnancy testing and limited ultrasounds performed by a registered nurse or sonographer to help you understand key details about your pregnancy.

You can also meet with a mentor to talk through your situation, ask questions, and learn about available resources without needing insurance.

Confirming Your Pregnancy Without Insurance

If you’re unsure whether you are pregnant, a pregnancy test can provide reliable confirmation. While home pregnancy tests are often 99% accurate, they can sometimes be unclear, especially very early on. New Hope Center offers medical-grade pregnancy testing free of charge to women without insurance, so you can start with clarity and peace of mind.

After a positive test, a limited ultrasound can provide important medical information, including:

  • How far along is the pregnancy is
  • Whether the pregnancy is located inside the uterus
  • Viability, including whether the pregnancy appears to be progressing, is often determined by the presence of a detectable fetal heartbeat

These details can also help identify concerns such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy occurs when a pregnancy develops outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube, and can become life-threatening if it causes rupture and internal bleeding.

Help When You Don’t Have Insurance

In Kentucky, many women without health insurance still qualify for programs that can help during pregnancy and after delivery. Depending on your situation, support may include:

  • Medicaid and KCHIP: State health coverage programs that often provide prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care based on income eligibility.
  • Presumptive Eligibility (PE): Temporary coverage that allows pregnant women to receive prenatal care right away while a full Medicaid application is processed.
  • WIC (Women, Infants, and Children): A nutrition program that offers food benefits, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support for pregnant women and young children.
  • HANDS (Health Access Nurturing Development Services program): A voluntary home-visiting program that supports parents during pregnancy and early childhood with education and resources.
  • First Steps Program: Early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities.
  • New Hope Center parenting support: Free parenting classes that cover prenatal care, newborn basics, and parenting skills, with opportunities to earn baby and maternity items and receive referrals to additional community resources.

Our team can help you learn what resources may be available locally and how to take the next step.
